The Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club presents "Mel's Day", the annual one-day casting clinic honoring the late Mel Krieger.

In memory of Mel Krieger and his many contributions to the GGACC, this one-day expanded casting clinic is offered at no-charge to both club members and the general public. The clinic will be held at the finest casting facility in the world "THE GOLDEN GATE ANGLING & CASTING CLUB" located in Golden Gate Park. A limited number of club fly rods will be available, on first-come basis.

Recognized for three decades as the top fly fishing instructor in the United States and much of the world, Mel Krieger is famous for a fine-tuned teaching approach that makes learning the sport easy, fast, and lots of fun!  Tens of thousands of fly casters learned the fundamentals at Mel's elbow, including many of the world's finest fishermen, champion casters, expert anglers, guides, and instructors. The Mel Krieger Method of teaching is quick and successful.

  • Taught by IFFF-certified casting instructors, some of whom were trained by Mel Krieger himself!
  • Students should bring the following:  Hat, jacket (rain gear if needed), glasses (clear or sun, for eye protection), and a rod, reel, & floating line (if you have these now).  Also bring any old tapered leader or tippet section to attach your "yarn" fly to (yarn avail. in lodge)
  • Free loaner rods (with reels and lines) available on a first served basis for those who arrive early (around 8:45am)
  • From 9:30 AM to Noon:  Free Fly Casting Lessons -- with separate skills instruction offered for Beginners, Novices, Intermediate, and Advanced Students.
  • FINALLY, please pre-register [to assist with the number of needed instructors] via the REGISTER button on this webpage or contact John C. Till at johnctill@comcast.net (use Mel's Day for subject in your email or by calling him at 650-348-1216)
