Emigrant Lake Backpacking Rondy
September 8-14, 2017
This new high country GGACC Rondy spans seven days, which includes driving to and from the trailhead.
Emigrant Lake, the largest lake in the Emigrant Wilderness, is 3 miles long and at approximately 8500’ elevation. There are plenty of wading access points and the trout are a good size, with most being over 12” long.
The first night will be spent near the trailhead. Two days each way are required for hiking to and from Emigrant Lake. We will spend 3 nights at Emigrant Lake providing 2 full days of fishing. The trail is very well maintained, and the round-trip total distance is approximately 32 miles. Elevation gain is approximately 3000’ from the trailhead.
The trip is open to experienced backpackers only. It is NOT for those currently enrolled in the club's LTFF program or other beginning anglers. Participants should be in very good physical condition. Your leader (club member Richard Gamer) is a very experienced backpacker, having backpacked throughout the Sierras during summers for the past 40 years.
Total group participation is four (4), including the leader. The fee for this Rondy is $25 (non-refundable), which does NOT include the cost of your own food, transportation, and other consumables. You will need to provide your own equipment. Some items may be shared.
A pre-trip meeting will be scheduled for mid-August, for which all registrants will be notified in advance via email. This meeting will cover the logistics of where to meet, possible carpooling, what to bring, more about what to expect, etc.
