Rondy:  Shad Single Hand Rods

Dates:  May 20, 2018

Leader:  Jeff Hutchinson  415-506-6746  mailto:jeff.hutchinson@att.net

Number of anglers:  11

Description:  A day of Shad fishing on the Sacramento River with single hand rods only (11' and shorter switch rods are permissible if cast overhead only).  We will meet in Hamilton City at the Irving Finch boat launch.  Our guides will take us by Jet boats to a sandbar where we will wade out to fish.  You need to be able to cast a shooting head effectively to fish for Shad.  Anglers will be expected to rotate positions when wading so that everyone can catch fish.  Boats will leave the ramp at noon and return us to the ramp at dusk/dark.  This is a day trip and most people are likely to drive home afterward (roughly a 2 hour drive time back to the Bay Area).  Our guides will provide flies, drinks, sun awnings, and an early dinner.  Their website is http://www.orlandoutfitters.com/index.html

Suggested Gear:  6-8wt single hand rods.  Fast action to throw shooting heads. Carry Type 2 through Type 6 shooting heads, or equivalent tungsten sink tips. Leaders are relatively short, no more than 6-7 ft in length. The shad are not leader shy so you can go with 10-12# tippet. In May there is a good chance the shad will be holding higher in the water column in the evening, so a Type 2 or 3 head will work better than a Type 4 or 6.  If you bring just one shooting head, make it a Type 4.  The guides will have some shad flies (called "shad darts") if you need them.

Cost:  The fee for this Rondy is $200.00.

Other expenses will be lunch, parking fee (bring small bills), and guide gratuities.

Cancellation Policy:  There are no refunds.  In the event that a member is, for any reason, unable to attend, he may resell his slot (rod) to another GGACC member (by first pulling from the waitlist if one exists).  It is the sole responsibility of the member to manage this transaction.  This is not the responsibility of the leader or club.
