The Upper "Sac" is everything a freestone trout stream should be: It has riffles, pocket water, long runs, and deep pools. It is a wonderful "walk and wade" river that flows 37 miles from Lake Siskiyou to Shasta Lake. Rondy leaders Greg Someson and Mike Downing will lead 8 club anglers to show them good places to enter and fish the river on June 3 and 4.
We will meet at 7:00AM 6/3 at the Ted Fay Fly Shop, located in downtown Dunsmuir. We will make a short drive to the river, where Craig Nielson, Shasta Trout Outfitters, will conduct a Pre-Fishing Clinic.
There are several motels and campgrounds in the area. More information will be forthcoming later.
This Rondy is for experienced anglers ONLY and is NOT for current participants in the Learn to Fly Fish Program or other beginners. This is "catch and release only" fishing with barbless hooks.
Gear: Full wading attire and staff, 4 or 5 wt fly rod rigged with floating line for dry flies and nymphing, 4X-6X leaders, 5X-7X tippet (Mono or Flourocarbon), split-shot, indicators, and flies. It may be hot or cold this time of the year -- and it may rain. Be prepared.
There is a $25 non-refundable fee for this Rondy. Your other expenses will include travel, lodging, meals, and, perhaps, the purchase of a few flies while in the fly shop (to help support the grateful owner Bob who personally ties most of his flies).
