Rondy:  Deschutes River

Dates:  October 5-7, 2019

Leader:  Libby Wolfensperger  mailto:elwolfensperger@me.com

Number of anglers (excluding leader):  7

Description:  This Rondy is a 3 day guided float and wade fishing adventure on the scenic Lower Deschutes River in Central Oregon where we will fly-fish for Native Summer Steelhead. Guides will take us through miles of calm and white water and scenic canyons where we will periodically take out to wade and swing for fish (no fishing from boat). Only experienced wading anglers should sign up for this trip. Boots with studs are encouraged. There will be one guide and boat for every 2 anglers. We will be using Spey rods 5-7 wt. depending on your preference. For those of you without two handed rods, guides will have some to try out.

A camp guide will proceed us each day and haul gear, bedding, set up camp, tents and cook a delicious dinner. In the morning, breakfast and coffee will be ready before we take off each day. All meals and water will be provided while on the river. Anglers will supply sleeping bags, pillows, personal items, liquor, rods, flies, Oregon fishing license and boat permit (for Indian Reservation).

We will start and end the trip in Bend, Oregon at the Confluence fly shop in the Old Mill district where we can pick up some flies, get a license, meet our guides and park our cars. We will put in near Madras about an hour north and take out near Maupin 3 days later then head back to Bend. Bend is only about an 8 ½ hr. drive from San Francisco. There is also an airport in nearby Redmond for those who prefer not to drive. We should all plan on coming in a day early and staying over the night after in Bend.

As we get closer, we will have a meeting to discuss more details including equipment, lodging, car pools, room sharing, etc. In the meantime, you can get more details on the Deep Canyon Outfitters website at http://www.deepcanyonoutfitters.com/

Suggested Gear:  5-7 wt two-handed rods, studded boots, and wading staff.  Anglers must also supply their own sleeping bags, pillow, personal items, liquor, flies, and Oregon fishing license and boater's pass. Guides will supply tents, sleeping pads and cots.

There will be a dedicated gear boat that will haul our gear, set up camp, and cook great meals. Personal items that are only needed in camp can be packed in a large dry bag to be supplied by the guides and transported in the gear boat.  Bring your own small dry bag (or waterproof pack) with a change of clothes, rain jacket, fleece, and any small personal items that you may want to keep handy in your boat.

Cost:  The fee for this Rondy is $1,172.50

Other expenses will be guide gratuities, transportation to and from Bend, and lodging the nights before and after the trip.
