NOTE:   THE EVENT LISTED BELOW HAS BEEN CANCELLED OUT OF CONCERN FOR THE CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC AND IN COMPLIANCE WITH THE ORDER OF THE SAN FRANCISCO HEALTH OFFICER ISSUED 3/13/20 PROHIBITING LARGE PUBLIC GATHERINGS IN THE CITY UNTIL AFTER APRIL 30TH.  The City has also postponed the Golden Gate Park 150th Anniversary celebration this day.  The decision of whether to hold Free Casting Lessons on the 2nd Saturday of May will be made by the GGACC Board of Directors in their next meeting on 4/4/20.

THE "FREE PUBLIC CASTING LESSONS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ON THE GOLDEN GATE PARK CASTING PONDS" WILL BE HELD ON THE FIRST SATURDAY OF THIS MONTH, ON APRIL 4TH, TO HELP CELEBRATE THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY OF GOLDEN GATE PARK.  This month's casting event is also "Mel's Day" in honor of our distinguished honorary club member and renowned casting instructor, the late Mel Krieger.

The Golden Gate Angling & Casting Club's (GGACC's) Monthly Free Fly Casting Lessons are open to both Club members and the General Public. These free fly casting lessons are generally held on the 2nd Saturday of each month year-round from 9:30 AM - 12 Noon at the Golden Gate casting ponds.  These lessons are followed by a free small lunch courtesy of GGACC.  Free loaner equipment is also available on a first come, first served basis, but please try to arrive by 8:45 AM to take advantage of this limited free equipment.

A few points to consider –

  • These lessons focus on casting single-handed fly rods.
  • Casting lessons are a “go," rain or shine.
  • For safety reasons, no flies with hooks are permitted; only "yarn" practice flies are allowed (these practice flies are provided free of charge).
  • Students are expected to provide and wear their own eye protection (regular glasses, sun glasses, or safety glasses) at all times during the casting lessons.

Classes target four different skill levels (the classes are held concurrently):

  • Beginner
  • Novice
  • Intermediate
  • Advanced

Please pre-register for these casting lessons in order to help determine the number of needed instructors and for lunch planning purposes.  To register, simply click on the large "Register" button to the left of this event description (or above it if using your smartphone).

Finally, if you are interested in joining the casting instructor group or training for Fly Fishers International (FFI) "Casting Instructor" (CI) certification, please contact Willy George.
