Women's Spey Angler Class #1

Saturday, November 7, 2020, from 9am-3pm

We are excited to offer this class to the Women of GGACC!  We'll have a great lineup of instructors, including Sarah Trenschel who helps lead the women's program for the Club.

Like the Spey Angler Program that's been open to all GGACC members for many years, the GGACC's new Women's Spey Angler Program's primary goal is to teach anglers how to cast a two-handed Spey (or Switch) rod in order to "swing" flies for steelhead and other species. Teaching anglers to fish from a boat with a two-handed rod using such tackle as strike indicators is NOT part of this program.

A “signature” of GGACC’s Spey training is that we train students to cast from either side of their body while using the hand on that particular side of the body as the top hand.

This will be a one-day class on the American River near the city of Sacramento, with no overnight stay intended.  Instruction will cover Spey basics, safety, several Spey casts, fishing tactics, and Q&A.

Maximum class size is 6 students, in order to give each student lots of personal attention.

Students are encouraged to use one of the club's 13' Spey rods for this class, unless approved by the lead instructor to use their own Spey rod. The club rods are nicely balanced and especially good for this training.  However, students MUST bring their own waders and boots, a wading staff (suggested), sunglasses or other eye protection, appropriate jackets and other weather protection, and their own lunch, non-alcoholic beverages, and a camp chair.  More info may be provided later as an updated description to this event, so registrants should refer back to it before attending.

Registrants will be notified by email beforehand with the directions to the class location and will be asked upon arrival there to sign a Covid-19 waiver and abide by all required safe practices, including wearing face masks when instructed to do so.

All women must be current GGACC members to be allowed to register, and there is a $50 registration fee for this class.  The fee must be paid with credit card or PayPal when you register online on THIS calendar event.  Failure to make this payment within 15 minutes of starting the registration process will cancel your registration.
