Title:  2020 LTFF Beginner Class - Small Group Casting Lessons

Date:  Saturday, Nov. 14, 2020  (register separately for Saturday, Dec. 12, 2020)

Times (two sessions each date):  9:30 - 11:30 AM   OR   12:30 - 2:30 PM

Other Info:  All 3 casting ponds are reserved during the above time periods on those two dates.

The City of San Francisco and the SF Dept. of Rec and Parks have given approval for GGACC to restart small group casting lessons at the Golden Gate casting ponds on a very limited and controlled basis for health safety reasons.  GGACC has chosen to offer this opportunity initially only to those previously enrolled 2020 Learn to Fly Fish (LTFF) Beginner Class students as the exclusive participant audience to be granted an opportunity to sign up for ONE session on either one of, OR both of, these two dates for the group casting lessons on Saturday, November 14th and/or Saturday, December 12th.

Unless formally invited otherwise via email, no other LTFF students nor any other GGACC club members may sign up for these group lessons on these two initial dates.  The 2020 LTFF Beginner Class will be notified via an email of the public posting of this calendar event for their initial review, but also for providing the subsequent date and time for the online registration opening.

Only those first 10 students to sign up online for only one session on each date will be allowed to initially register for these FREE casting lessons, but other 2020 LTFF Beg. class members are encouraged to sign the waitlist that will be generated when that limit is reached -- so that, in the event there are any drop-outs (if need be, please cancel your own registration online now up to the day before!), those waitlisted may be bumped up to the registrants list in the order that they signed the waitlist.

These casting lessons will be led by Willy George, FFI Certified Master Casting Instructor and the Head Casting Instructor at GGACC, who intends to address casting instruction at a level appropriate to these LTFF Beginner students who've all previously passed a LTFF Casting Qualifier last winter.

The City has limited the number of casters in any one class to only 10 students.  Students will be expected to follow a strict safe distance protocol that we will review with all students prior to the class start.  Students must provide their own masks and their own equipment (e.g., rod, reel, line, leader, and yarn practice fly).  The Club will provide hand sanitizer.  Casting Instructors will be in their waders and teach from in-the-water at a safe distance.  Students will be placed on the docks at the ponds spaced 10 feet apart from one another.

There will be two separate casting classes (identical sessions) on Saturday, November 14, and two similar classes on Saturday, December 12.  The morning session on each of those two dates will run from 9:30 - 11:30 AM and the afternoon session will run 12:30 - 2:30 PM. We suggest that students arrive no earlier than 15 minutes before the start of their class session to avoid any extra group contact time.  NOTE:  All rods should be assembled at the casters' vehicles to avoid any gathering around the tables or benches next to the ponds.

The choice on whether to participate in these casting lessons is entirely up to the individual participant based on their own comfort level, but everyone is asked to determine that and their availability before they sign-up in order to avoid any unnecessary cancellations.  We respect individual decisions, and declining to participate will not affect anyone’s future status in the LTFF Program.  If you are currently enrolled in the 2020 LTFF Beginner Class and are willing to comply with the above safety measures, then you are encouraged to sign-up for these upcoming casting lessons using the process described below.  Please sign-up for no more than one class session per date (i.e., NO double-headers!).

REGISTRATION:  The large "REGISTER" button will appear, either next to this event description or just above (if on a mobile device), WHEN the registration has been enabled on the specific date and time to be announced via an email to the 2020 LTFF Beginner Class ONLY.  You are asked to not share that information with others, since any ineligible enrollees will be kicked off the registrants' lists and will NOT be checked in at the ponds on the day of the session.

On the calendar event for each of these Nov. 14 & Dec.12 dates, you will be required to choose one of the two sessions, either morning or afternoon. You will NOT be able to sign up for both sessions on that same day, but you may choose to register for another session on the 2nd date (on the registration opening date and time announced for it via email also).

Please do not register if you have experienced any of the following:

  • you have had COVID-19 in the last 10 days, or
  • you have had contact with someone with COVID-19 in the last 14 days, or
  • within the last 24 hours you have experienced COVID-19 symptoms.

John Murphy will be in charge of the administrative aspects related to these casting lessons, including the registration, managing waitlists, Q&A, and onsite check-in.  Please contact John if you have any questions, and be sure to check in with him when you arrive at the ponds, after which you will be asked to fill-out a stick-on name badge.

For questions or issues registering, pls contact John Murphy,  jmurphy7599@gmail.com, or text him on registration day if you already have his cell phone number.
