Rod Building Workshops
Golden Gate Angling and Casting Club
Build a custom fly rod with the components YOU want.
Learn a new skill. Save money.
Three GGACC rod building workshops will begin this Fall for current Club members. Each will consist of six meetings, held at the Lodge one evening a week over the course of seven or eight weeks. Each meeting will cover a different aspect of rod building and you’ll apply what you learn to the rod blank you’re building at that meeting. There will be a two week gap between the first and second sessions so that students can purchase the supplies they need that were discussed in the first session.
Topics include: choosing a rod blank and components; assembling and gluing up reel seats, aligning rod sections, constructing cork grips, preparing and wrapping guides, and coating guide wraps.
There is no fee for the workshops, but participants must supply a rod blank, reel seat, cork, guides, thread, finish and some simple tools (razor blade, masking tape, glues, etc.) The Club supplies rod wrapping and coating jigs.
Workshops begin in October, November and December 2021 on Wednesday or Thursday evenings from 6pm to 8pm at the Lodge. Each of the three workshops is limited to six students.
Online enrollment will begin at 7pm September 7 on the Club’s Events calendar. Expect spaces to fill up quickly.
